There’s a certain magic that lives in silence, in movement, in the imperfection of a single flickering frame. As wedding photographers, we’ve always sought to capture the essence of a moment—not just how it looked, but how it felt. Over the past few months, we’ve started diving into Super 8 film and incorporating it into more of our sessions, and we’ve been surprised (in the best way) by how quickly it’s become one of our most requested add-ons for 2026
and beyond.
In this post, I want to walk you through our journey with Super 8, what makes it so special, and why J & A’s Atlixco engagement session now stands as one of our favorite examples of why this medium matters.
Digital photography is powerful. It’s clean. It’s consistent. But there are moments that digital just can’t fully translate—the sparkle in the eye, the subtle dance of light on fabric, the breath in between laughter and silence. This is where Super 8 film steps in.
Texture & grain: The imperfections are part of the story. The way film grain whispers through shadows and highlights adds an emotional layer that feels tactile.
Soft motion: The slight motion blur, the gentle jitter, the frame-to-frame transition. It’s not perfect—it's soulful.
Time in your hands: Watching Super 8 is slow in a world that’s always rushing. It gives space to feel, linger, and remember.
Contrast to digital: When paired with your photo gallery, the film becomes a living portrait. It emphasizes moments rather than replaces them.
Because of this, couples who gravitate toward editorial aesthetics and meaningful storytelling are beginning to ask: “Can we include Super 8 in our day?” The answer for us now is always yes.
